description It's HERE!Dinosaur lovers of all ages: Tennessee now has its own full-scale, complete skeleton of a T-Rex and you can see it in Cookeville! Work assembling the T-Rex—40-feet long, 14-feet high with a four foot head— has just been completed at the Highlands Prehistoric Museum on Cedar St. just off the Cookeville town square. The Fort Peck Rex, the ONLY life-size T-Rex skeleton in the Southeastern U.S., is now part of the museum’s permanent collection. The 7,400 square-foot teaching museum features skeletons and displays of a variety of dinosaurs and pre-historic creatures; all kinds of fossils; and a dinosaur lab where bones are being excavated from a section of rock sediment shipped to the museum from Montana. For information on visiting the museum, hours, or group tours check the museum’s website www.highlandsprehistoricmuseum.com, search for "Highland Prehistoric Museum" on Facebook, or the museum at (931) 526-3204, or you can contact this LSN account. Open Tuesday-Saturday: 9-5 and Sunday 11-4. A short drive from Sparta, Smithville, Knoxville, Murfreesboro, McMinnville, Crossville, Lebanon, Woodbury, Nashville and Chattanooga! ![]() |
